That dreamy petite best friend, Diamond

We are observing the month of April, with Diamond as a birthstone. I don’t have much to share about diamond in general simply because almost every woman knows about diamond or at least has read or heard about it at some point of our lives. So, in dedicating the month of April, I’m going to write a little bit about my own story of this gorgeous petite, popular girl’s best friend.

My first diamond is my engagement ring in my early 20s. It was a choice between 1.2 cts in D color, 1.6 cts with F color or 1.9 cts with H color at that time. I was not thinking out loud about anything in particular because I didn’t know much about diamond at the time, so I chose the medium of everything, medium size between the three, a round brilliance, named Al-Nilam 47th from a selection of 2000 Millenium Diamond by De Beers. A selection of only 2000 pieces of diamonds around the world De Beers produced in the year 2000 representing their walk-through the millennium.

Diamond are one of the most prized gemstones in the world. It is made out of pure carbon and ideally colorless. Contrary to popular belief, diamond was not form by applying pressure to coal, but rather exposing carbon to extremely high pressure (Trevor Nace, Forbes 2016). Hence why diamond is 58 times harder than any mineral on earth. It is industrially used in coated blades and able to cut or grind through anything.

Allegedly associated with richness in love, diamond literally means light, life and sun. It is an emblem of purity and perfection, of invincible spiritual power. It is known to be the gemstone symbolizing committment, faithfulness, promise, light and brilliance, an unconquerable treasure, riches and intellectual knowledge. In purchasing one, diamond is chosen based on its Clarity, Color, Cut, Carat, Shape and Fluorescence.

It has always been a special gesture that makes me always feel blessed and grateful to have the honour to be introduced to such beauty. To many perhaps it was a diamond, a precious gemstone that was valued at a certain price. To me, it brings the meaning of a commitment of an everlasting companionship, a symbol of delicate femininity of receiving the abundance of thoughts, love and compassion, a gesture of an invitation into personal space and respect. Ultimately, it brings moments of treasure, gratitude and blessings.

20 years down the road, it is still one of my utmost cherish item. The one that glitteringly smile back at me every time I rest my eyes on it, admiring its beauty. Knowing itself how special it is to be one of the 2000 pieces around the world. After all, who is best at keeping treasure except women, right?

"There are three things extremely hard: steel, a diamond, and to know one's self."

- Benjamin Franklin
